The Israel Project (TIP), an international not-for-profit organization with offices in Washington, DC and Israel, is seeking applicants for the following positions for its Washington, DC office:

Media Communications Assistant

Full-time, TEMPORARY position through September 30, 2009

Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief/Senior Adviser, the Media Communications Assistant is responsible for a variety of functions to support The Israel Project's communications strategy. Tasks include planning and carrying out logistics for press events and teleconferences, fact-checking materials; conducting online research; proofreading/copy editing, sending emails/faxes to journalists, updating journalist, newspaper, talk radio contact info via TIP's online database, updating Web page content, graphics, and converting/uploading files to Web site, monitoring open rates for emails, and similar tasks.

Successful candidate will be highly detail-oriented with very well-honed grammar and writing abilities as well as excellent research, proofreading and presentation skills. Must also possess in-depth understanding of the Middle East and a strong commitment to Israel. Position requires ability to effectively plan/manage work flow and details on multiple projects simultaneously with limited supervision. Ability to work hard in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment required. High level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook essential. Knowledge of AP writing style and familiarity with online database management a plus.

Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism or communications; journalism background/training preferred but will consider candidates with relevant background and experience. One year communications/media relations/public relations experience preferred.

Media Communications Internship

NOTE: This is a TEMPORARY paid position through June 5, 2009

Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief/Senior Adviser for Media and Communications, the Media Communications intern will perform a variety of functions to support TIP's communication strategy including research, writing and fact-checking materials, e.g. press releases and backgrounders; conducting online research; updating journalist email/fax database information, proofreading/copy-editing press materials and assisting in planning and carrying out press events and teleconferences, including contacting journalists by telephone and any other similar tasks as may be appropriate for a Media Communications intern.

Web/Social Media Internship

NOTE: This is a TEMPORARY paid position through June 5, 2009

Under the supervision of the Director of Web Advocacy, the Web/Media-Intern will be responsible for helping to increase the outreach of The Israel Project on the Internet, using new tools such as social networks, video-sharing websites, blogs, twitter, etc. Successful candidate will also help build, develop and maintain an accurate and up-to-date website (www.theisraelproject.org).

Duties will include working with photos, videos and audio files, expand TIP's presence on blogs, social networking and video-sharing websites. Will also help maintain an updated activist section on TIP's website. Additional duties may include maintaining an updated online contact database of activists and journalists (adding/updating/deleting records), reviewing all website pages for accuracy and currency, working with content owners to revise content using TIP's Kintera-based CMS, and if needed format TIP pieces for emailing and posting to the TIP website.

Excellent attention to detail, copy editing/proofreading, web software (CMS) and Microsoft Office skills required. Experience with social networking sites and video-sharing websites is preferred.
